Weigh In Day

Today was weigh in day. I will leave the readers in suspense until next Sunday's article. However, I did show a loss for the month, so that is a good thing. It was a short month, so expect better results from me in the remaining months. Although I am not eligible for any prizes, I will still push myself each month for pride and for a healthy lifestyle moving forward into the future.

I am very proud of one contestant who lost 24 lbs this past month. That is a great accomplishment and I hope he/she continues her/his success.

Thanks
Michael Kadlub

Friday

Had a personal training session at 7am with Andrea today at Slim and Fit.  She does not let me slack off and I enjoy the workouts.

No meat on Fridays during Lent, so I decided to try a shrimp omelet.   I know Scott Conant from Chopped on the Food Network says that seafood and cheese is a no-no, but I have to tell you, my omelet was delicious.   I sautéed the shrimp with Pam butter spray and garlic powder, and then pour in the egg beaters and some cheese and dried jalapeno to make the omelet.  Topped it off with some Tabasco sauce and I have to say it was fantastic.  If I ever make it to Chopped, I am making that for Scotty.

25.5 hours until the 1st weigh in.  Good luck everybody.

Ash Wednesday

So today is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent.   What to give up for this period time is the question.

I decided on wings, alcohol, candy, popcorn and Chipotle.  It will be a tough challenge for me, but I feel I am up for the task.

For those who were wondering about my Fat Tuesday dilemma, I decided on the Wright Place’s garlic parmesan wings.   I also included a Bloody Mary and some Reeese’s peanut butter and chocolate treats to get it out of my system in preparation for the Lenten season.

Fat Tuesday

Happy Fat Tuesday to all contestants!    Last day to splurge on whatever tempts you to over-indulge.

Chipotle, Wright Place garlic parmesan wings, or Freshley’s gyro?    That is my dilemma for tonight’s protein fulfillment

Month 1 almost in the books

With the first weigh in upon us this coming Saturday, I did a little research on the contestants last year in an Excel file I used to track myself and the others to see where I stood each month as motivation.  I noticed that there was not one single month in which every single contestant lost weight.  I am hoping after this weekend, I will be able to say something different about this year’s contestants.

Today is my parent’s 41st wedding anniversary and we are meeting for lunch for some Mexican food (not exactly what you would call healthy), and then a dinner later this week to celebrate.   So hopefully, I am not the one who ruins the challenge I just mentioned above.   41 years is amazing, especially considering they had to put up with my brother and I living under the same roof for many of those years.  God Bless them!

My plans for exercise this week.  Hoops yesterday, tonight and tomorrow.  I will be joining a P90X guru (Dom Matteo) on Wednesday night for his Fit Club workout, and then Saturday morning boot camp.

2-16

I am having a good week so far.   I played basketball Sunday, Monday & Tuesday getting in some great cardio on those days.  Yesterday was a rest day, and today I will do some type of total body workout after work.   I am looking forward to another boot camp at Slim and Fit on Saturday morning.   Hope to see some fellow contestants there.

Weekend Fun

I attended the boot camp at Slim and Fit on Saturday and to my surprise, none of the other participants for Lighten Up were there. Don't let a little snow get in the way of burning some calories folks. It was actually nice because there was only one other person there, so instead of a class, we got more personal treatment from the personal trainer, Danielle. She worked up good and the soreness I feel today is a good one. After gaining some weight during my travels last week, I am back to my original weigh in, so hopefully over the new two weeks, I can shed a few more.
Played a couple hours of basketball this morning, which makes for excellent cardio exercise. Looking forward to grilling a ribeye and lobster on the grill this afternoon. Half for lunch and half for dinner to split up the calories.

TGIF

Tomorrow will be two weeks since the initial weigh in.   I gained a little when I was out of town last week, and now I am back to my weigh in weight.  I have not gotten into a P90X2 routine yet when I do it every day.  I play basketball on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.  I find that it is great cardio, but that it is also prevents me from other workouts on those days.  So I think I will mix in some workouts throughout the week and then start the P90X2 routine once basketball season ends in late March.

Normally on a Friday afternoon around 5pm, I would be looking forward to Happy Hour and tossing back a few (aka several) beers.   Instead, I am finishing up some work and looking forward to a good workout.

Super Bowl Cleanse

Last week I was out of town (New Jersey and New York for work).  While I did eat out each night, I would only eat half of my meal, and then eat the remaining half for lunch the following day.  I was able to get in some exercise each day including a walk around Central Park and Manhattan.

However, I came home yesterday to Super Bowl Sunday.  You cannot be good on Super Bowl Sunday.   That is a day reserved for Sausage poppers (thanks Marcia), wings & pizza (thanks Wright Place), chips and fabulous dips (thanks Heather), chocolate cake bread (thanks Mrs. Rossman), and the best pepperoni bread you will ever taste (thanks Great Harvest Bread in Mentor), and beer (although I did forego on the beer this year).  So Super Bowl Sunday is followed by Cleansing Monday.

It is nice to see all the blogging by the contestants this first week.  I hope to see it continue.

Back for Round 2

Last year I posted a goal to lose 100lbs from where I had started at 308.   I ended up losing 60 during the contest, and had lost about 5 more after the contest until I injured my back doing some routines during my Insanity workouts.   Lack of exercise and poor nutrition while I was hurt led to some weight gain which I tipped the scales at 266 for the first weigh in for this year’s journey.   My goal continues to be 100 total pounds lost from where I started, which would mean about 10 lbs per month during the contest.   I know I have what it takes to do it, and then maintain that once the contest is over.

I chatted with several of the other contestants on Saturday and they all seemed very motivated to lose weight and feel better.  I have set a challenge to ourselves to lose more than the 402 lbs the contestants lost as a group last year.  I know we can do it.

My exercise routine for these six months will consist of 2 rounds of P90X2, basketball, racquetball, swimming, biking, hiking, golf, and softball.

My nutrition plan will consist mainly of 5-6 meals a day with 300-500 calories per meal.   One other measure I am taking this year is cutting out beer totally.   That has been one of my downfalls in the past.  I actually started my beer ban at the start of January, and I am not really missing it.

Good luck to everybody!
