P90X2 - Day 1

Only 89 more days until the final weigh in, time to bring it!    Started P90X2 today with X2 Core (you can view a short review of the exercises I performed this morning here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5-HNgLvlEk)

Food for today – Pepperoni bread from Great Harvest Bread in Mentor (ask for Kris or Molly when you visit) – I recommend the Pepperoni Bread with banana peppers or the Asiago bread.   Good way to start your morning with some carbs to fuel your day.  Protein bar for snack, cucumber salad for lunch, protein shake for snack, and some chicken with veggies for dinner.

Good News - Bad News

Only one more day in April, thank goodness as it did not treat me too well.

I did receive some good news from Laura yesterday at our weigh in.  The fact that I set a record.  The bad news is that the record is most weight gained in one month by any contestant since she has been doing this contest.

P90X2 starts tomorrow for me, it is going to be a great 90 days with the P90x2 and racquetball mixed in for plenty of workouts each week.

San Francisco, definitely not the weight loss treat

I was in San Francisco for the last 8 days for a work conference.   The food and beverages were plnetiful and so was appetite, not a good good combination for this weight loss journey.

4-21-12

Arrived in San Francisco yesterday.  This is going to be another rough week being out of my element and out of town, especially with all the delicious food that will be served at my work conference.

Whenever I am out of town, I attempt to seek out the restaurants that have been featured on the Food Network.   Tonight's find was The Wayfare Tavern, a Tyler Florence owned restaurant.  I had his delicious popovers, the recipe in which he had gotten from BL Steak in New York.   I also had his delicious Fried Chicken and mashed potatoes.

4-22-12

Walked across and back on the Golden Gate bridge today, 3.4 mile trip. I had lunch at the Cliff House which sits atop a cliff and overlooks the Pacific Ocean.  In addition, I got in another Food Network place for dinner with a nice hearty dinner at the state's oldest restaurant, Tadich Grill.

4-23-12

Took a tour of Alcatraz today.   What a fascinating place.  The cells wereso small and the island was freezing even though it was a nice day out.  The breeze coming off the bay had to put a chill in the prisoners.

I had dinner at Alioto's on Fisherman's Wharf.

4-24-12

So I got on the scale in the exercise room here at the hotel and noticed a 12 lb gain since last weigh in.    This month of being out of town 20 days has taken its toll.   I decided to start walking the stairs to my room on the 6th floor for the remainder fo the visit here.   Walking down is a breeze, but the walk up a few times a days is definitely a great workout for the legs.

4-26-12

So glad to be heading home and back to my routine and the Y.   Flying home on the red eye to New York, and then NY to Cleveland, so hopefully I can sleep on the plane and be productive tomorrow.

4-27-12

Got on my scale, and Oh Boy!, I am about 15 lbs over last month's weigh in, almost back to my startin weight this year. Therefore,  I am going to show a gain in weight for the first time in 7 weigh ins, going back to last year.  I am not worried though, because I am feeling great and still doing my push ups every day.   I am guessing this weight will come off very quickly once I am back in my routine.  Looking ahead for the next three month, it looks like I have only one week of extended travel.   I will be starting the P90X2 routine on Monday which should last right up until the final weigh in.  Football games are won in the second half.  I had a very filling halftime with my out of town travels to fuel me for the second half (last three months).  Time to turn it up an extra notch and finish strong.

Feeling Good

Feeling good this week.

Played racquetball three days this week, went for a couple bike rides, and continuing on my daily push up routine.

I ate well this week too including some Chipotle, Brown Bag Burger and Bob Evans.  Need the calories to boost my metabolism for the workouts.

Sunset Beach Vacation

Hopefully any readers were able to decipher my last post as an April Fool's joke, as I did not gain 20 lbs at the last weigh in.

Sorry for the delay in correspondence.  I have been on vacation for the last week in a half in Sunset Beach, North Carolina.  I tried to keep a log as much as possible for my daily routines.  I definitely wanted to enjoy myself, while at the same time, not over indulging too much.

4-6-12

2 mile walk on the beach, 300 jump rope reps and 100 push ups

omelet for breakfast

4-7-12

Played a round of golf today and ouch!!!  109.   Going to need to retool the game.

4-8-12

Happy Easter everybody.  So I was able to indulge in some of the things I gave up for Lent today - Reese's peanut butter eggs (Thanks Marcia) and alcohol.  After having too much vodka while watching Bubba Watson celebrate his first Masters, I think I may extend my ban of hard alcohol and stick with water and almond milk for my hydration needs

I got another round of golf in and did much better today by 23 strokes.

4-10-12

omelet for breakfast, protein bar for snack, 400 jump rope reps and 100 push ups on the beach, almonds for lunch, and then a healthy dinner of clams/lobster and baked potato.

One bad thing I have been addicted to on vacation is a nightly snack of ice cream with peanut butter.

4-11-12

omelet for breakfast, protein shake for snack, homemade pasta/chicken for lunch, protein bar for snack, more homemade pasta/chicken for dinner, and of course an treat to end the night, ice cream and peanut butter

Exercise - my usual daily push up routine and 18 holes of golf

4-12-12

omelet for breakfast, bacon/eggs/homefries and toast for snack

protein shake for snack, homemade pasta/chicken for lunch, protein bar for snack, fish fry for dinner (Thanks Jim and Dustin for catching all the fish) with bluefish, onion rings, french fries, mushroom and pickles all beer battered.   Very delicious. We had run out of ice cream, so no ice cream treat to end the evening this time.

4-13-12

leftover fish and onion rings for breakfast, 18 holes of golf, steak sandwich for lunch with a few beers (I am on vacation from my no beer policy too, especially since this was the final day of vacation).  Protein shake for snack followed by a 2 mile bike ride.   Dinner include some pasta carbonara (Thanks Mary) and more beers to end the relaxing day.

4-14-12

The drive home included eggs/hashbrowns for breakfast, chipotle for lunch, and Nutrageous for snack, and home sweet home capped the night off with Wings and potato skins from the Wright Place.  Was still able to get in my 60 push ups, although I was getting funny looks when doing them in the parking lot at Chipotle in Winston Salem.

Weigh In Day Disappointment

So, I thought I was was doing good during March with my exercise and nutrition even though I was out of town for a couple weeks. I knew my clothes were feeling a little bit more snug, so I figured maybe I had gained a pound or two over the month. Needless to say, when I stepped on the scale at the weigh in yesterday and saw that I had gained 20 pounds in the month, I was flabbergasted. I guess I need to cut back on the late night ice cream snacks I have been treating myself to lately from a pint to just one or two scoops.

I was so disappointed in my showing that I headed to the Wright Place after weigh in and drowned my sorrows in a bucket of beers and 2 dozen delicious wings. That definitely made me feel better, or at least forget about the weight gain.

I am definitely going to have to step it up a notch this month with only 27 more days until the next weigh in.

After yesterday's fiasco, it allowed me to meditate today and be reassured by the infamous quotation:

"Having A Pretty Popular Young Aged President Really Intensifies Legal Federal Opinions, Otherwise Lookout Since Democrats Always Yell!"
