TGIF

One more day until another weigh in.  I figure I need to average 11 lbs lost per month the rest of the way to rest my goal of 60 lbs lost.  After a poor showing in month one (only 4 lbs lost, I am hoping to have a better showing tomorrow).

I played some racquetball this morning at the Y, and then biked for 4.5 miles as my cool down.

See everybody tomorrow.

March Madness in Arizona

I have been out of town in Arizona for the last week and a half, but I kept a brief journal of each day's activities.  Only a few days until another weigh in. I have also modified my ingredients in my protein shake.   Instead of Fat Free milk, I am going with Almond Milk.

3-18-12

I spent most of the day exercising my mental muscles reading people's faces and reactions while I played poker and watched the March Madness games.   I had an omelet for breakfast, some Shrimp Kung Pao for lunch and a few chicken drumsticks for dinner.

If you have been reading past blogs, you would of read about my routine of pushups prior to bed (I started out with 10, went to 12, and then 15).  Well, today I increased my work load and do 20 before bed and 20 when I wake up.   Those 20 are close grip and split up 10 on one leg and 10 on the other leg.

3-19-12

Omelet for breakfast, protein shake for snack, celery with turkey and ham salad for lunch, protein shake for snack, pan seared chicken thighs with herbs for dinner.

I got in a 2 mile walk, with periods of pushups and leg dips throughout the walk, and finished off with 100 reps of jump rope.

3-20-12

Omelet for breakfast, protein shake for snack, protein bar, celery/ham/turkey salad, pan seared chicken with the skins on (my guilty pleasure)

A 1 mile walk with some pushups in the park during my walk.

3-21-12

Omelet for breakfast, protein shake for snack, protein bar, ham/turkey with dressing, and pan seared and then roasted ribeye for dinner (it was very tender and juicy).  I got some push ups in throughout the day.

3-22-12

Omelet for breakfast, protein shake for snack, protein bar, celery/ham/turkey salad, pan seared chicken with the skins on.

2 mile walk and push ups

3-23-12

Omelet for breakfast, protein shake for snack, Shrimp tacos for lunch, peanuts, kung pao shrimp for dinner

2 mile walk and push ups

3-24-12

hashbrowns/sausage for breakfast, protein bar, chicken and mashed potatoes for lunch, protein bar, potato skins for dinner, push ups and hike up Camelback Mountain.  I have done this hike about 3 other times.  It was definitely much easier for me without all the added weight and belly mass getting in my way, especially the last half of the hike where it is more mountain climbing.

3-25-12

hashbrowns/sausage for breakfast, oats and honey granola bar,  turkey sandwich and ruffles potato chips for lunch, eggs/bacon/sausage and hashbrowns for snack, philly steak foccacia at Zipps Sports Bar for dinner (they have the best Foccacias!, push ups and 33 holes of golf.  Why 33?   I was set to play 36, but this was my first time out this year, and I ran out of golf balls after 33 holes (33 holes, 23 golf balls, 185 strokes).   That was quite a workout.

3-26-12

hashbrowns/sausage for breakfast, protein bar for snack, protein shake for lunch, protein bar for snack and 2 chicken sandwiches and fries for dinner (felt the urge for some BK so I splurged a little bit - I love those original chicken sandwiches with cheese on them.)

Not much exercise today as I was traveling aside from my daily push ups.  Also a long walk at the Detroit airport between terminals. During my travels I try to avoid any of the moving walkways, escalators, trams, etc and move about the old fashioned way, my own two legs.

3-27-12

I am back in Ohio now and everything is in bloom, my grass is growing like crazy.   Feel like I have been gone a month.  Today I had a protein bar for breakfast, protein shake for lunch, and meatloaf with pepper jack cheese and jalapenos for dinner.  2 hours of hoops in the evening for my exercise.  I also added a set of 20 push ups midday to my routine, so I am up to 60 push ups a day.   My goal is to get to 100 each day.

Happy St Patty's Day

I hope everybody had a good time for St. Patty’s day.

I was able to get in a short circuit workout of jumping rope and pushups yesterday.  I treated myself to a couple of corn beef reubens throughout the day to remain festive.  I did however stay away from the green beer, or any colored beer for that matter.  That marked the first time since I was 20 that I did not drink on St. Patty’s Day, and also kept me beer free for the year.

Today feels like a day to get outside with some sort of activity.  Have a great week everybody.

Happy PI Day

Well, it was PI Day today, so I was tempted to have some peanut butter and chocolate pie, but I resisted my temptation.

Instead I was up early for a 6am racquetball match.   Good day of nutrition – Protein shake before racquetball, Slovenian sausage for breakfast, protein bar for snack, turkey sandwich for lunch (lettuce as the wrap instead of bread), pizza for dinner and then another protein shake in the evening.

I also got in a session of heat yoga at Harmony in DTW (Downtown Willoughby) with my Yoga sensei Nikki T.  One hour of yoga in a 85-90 degree room.  Lots of sweat!

Time for bed, another early AM racquetball match tomorrow.

Tuesday the 13th

Today was a good day all around.   Beautiful weather, good eats, good exercise.

Played racquetball for an hour this morning at 6am at the Y followed by 4 miles on the bike, had some spare ribs for dinner which I picked up at Rudy’s Meat in Willowick (I also get my Smoked Slovenian Sausage there which I use in my daily omelets).   They have the best meat selection in Lake County.  Ask for Dave if you go and he will set you up with some excellent cuts of meat.

After dinner, I unpacked my bike out of the shed and went on a little tour of Wickliffe, good for about 3 miles, and then 3 hours of basketball.  Time now for a quick protein shake before bed so that my muscles can recover overnight in time for another 6am racquetball appearance tomorrow.

March Madness

Usually my weekends are one of my weaknesses when I indulge in too much food. This past weekend was completed without much indulging. Saturday, I went to the bootcamp in Willoughby joining Laura and two participants, Desirea and Lisa. It was another good workout. Following the workout, another great Saturday breakfast at Domenic's.
Saturday night, my training with my bowling tutor Ilona paid off as I rolled tonight's series of my life, 660.
Sunday, I played a couple hours of basketball and had a nice dinner of salmon, chicken wrapped with prosciutto, and potatoes - Thanks Mom!

A couple weeks ago, I started a new daily routine of doing 10 pushups before I get into bed. Last week, I upped the ante to 12, and today I upped it to 15. It is a little thing, but daily little things come together to equal a big change.

This week will be filled with Hoops, and 3 days of racquetball at the Y.

Loving the Y

This week has been a good one so far for me.   Went up to the Y the last two days at 6am for some racquetball with my brother.  He beat me one game today, so I will have to work harder to make sure that does not happen to often in the future.  I have another 6am match scheduled for tomorrow with a friend, bootcamp class Saturday morning with Jessica and the gang, a few games of bowling on Saturday night with my bowling trainer Ilona and then 2 hours of hoops on Sunday to round out my week of exercise.

Went to Bob Evans yesterday for breakfast and has a sausage and cheddar omelet which was so good.   I had half of it for breakfast yesterday, and the other half today.    Right now I am cooking up a herb crusted cod over some rice for dinner.  Just heard the oven buzzer.    Dinner time.

Three - Three

Went to the Boot Camp this morning in Willoughby and saw Laura and David Glaser from the News Herald in addition to about 8 other people which made for a fun class.  The trainer was Jessica and she did a good job of making us burn all over with the total body workout.

After the class I stopped by Domenic’s bar in Wickliffe for a delicious breakfast filled with protein, eggs and sausage.   A great little joint if you want a quick and quiet breakfast that is also fantastic.

I also stopped up at the YMCA to sign up for my 4 month membership courtesy of this contest.   I look forward to sweating away many pounds on the racquetball and basketball courts there.

The next three days will be my cardio days with basketball games/open gym involved each day.

Hello March

Yesterday felt like a beautiful spring day, so I took advantage and took a walk after dinner for about 1.5 miles.   It felt great to be outside in the fresh air.   Looking forward to spring and summer so I can do more outside activities.   Last year that is when I had the most success.

I feel like I have been doing good with my food recently.  The key is getting in a satisfying breakfast which fills you up so that I do not feel over starved throughout the day.   For me that breakfast usually includes an omelet and 20 oz of water.   My omelets are made with egg beaters, some type of protein (sausage, bacon, shrimp, steak, chicken, etc), dried jalapeno,  pepper, cheese and topped off with some tabasco.

With today being the 1st of March, I am really looking forward to getting up to the local Y and checking out some of the programs they have available while I wait for this weather to get better on a daily basis.
